The Orlo is a unique, event venue in South Tampa. Sitting just outside downtown, this venue is designed for the bride who loves the idea of a wedding in a charming, historic space. In the late 1800’s, the Orlo went by the name of the Spafford House & Ballroom, named after Orlo J. Spafford, a Tampa banking executive. It was eventually sold to the Tampa Women’s club in 1922 and at that point, transformed into a ballroom designed to host parties for Tampa’s elite.
Today, this piece of Tampa’s history hosts all sorts of events, including weddings and can accomodate up to 250 people. I just love the charm of this venue and just had to find out more about the space. I had a chance to meet with a member of their event sales team, Shelby for a brief Q&A on the venue and the event industry as a whole. Keep reading below!
A: I believe The Orlo is a very unique venue because of the original historic features to the space. You don’t have to do much to make it look beautiful and any style looks great with the dark wood floors and gorgeous chandeliers.
A: I absolutely love the bridal suite. Our brides can get ready on-site which makes it really special for them and the natural lighting is on point for all the getting ready photos.
A: The front porch/lawn of the house and the grand staircase inside. I love all of the beautiful photos couples get with their wedding party on the front porch and lawn, it is so charming. I love the grand staircase because it is such a magical spot for first look photos and bridal portraits.
A: We see so many beautiful weddings with all different types of styles. One of my favorites was the Emily & Colton Caslow wedding. They had a summer wedding and incorporated a rustic fairytale feel into their decor. They used lots of white, greenery, and natural wood. The couple did a first touch instead of a first look which I thought was such a sweet moment between the bride & groom that I won’t ever forget.
A: I love working closely with my clients and getting to know them during their planning process. I want to make sure that everything is perfect on their wedding day. I love being able to greet them on the morning of their wedding day when they arrive at The Orlo.
A: My favorite wedding trend right now is two dresses for the bride. I love the idea of having a ceremony dress that is one style and being able to switch into a dance/party dress for the reception. It also gives the bride a chance to get two dresses instead of one. 🙂
A: Be a guest at your own wedding! You have spent months planning so when the big day comes you need to just let go and enjoy everything that you have planned. You will be able to enjoy the time you have with your friends, family, and of course your new husband when you let go of controlling everything.
Well, that’s it, folks! Thank you to Shelby at the Orlo for taking the time to answer my questions. As a future bride, if you are in need of a wedding venue that is both historic, yet modern do not hesitate to reach out to the team at the Orlo. The easiest way would be via the “contact us” area of their site. You will NOT be disappointed.
